On Day 1 of the inauguration and training of Atlantic Humpback Dolphin Guardians, a significant milestone was reached as the local community, stakeholders, government authorities, national park rangers, and institutions gathered to raise awareness and engagement in dolphin conservation efforts.<\/p>\n

This event marked the commencement of Nigeria’s first-ever dolphin conservation project, aiming to educate the public on the importance of protecting this unique species and its vital role in our environment. The day commenced with an opening prayer, followed by an insightful introduction speech delivered by Prof. Edem Eniang.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere was enriched by a captivating music presentation by the brass band and a vibrant cultural dance performance by the dance group. Attendees then immersed themselves in a series of educational talk sessions, delving into the significance of dolphin conservation.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the event was the introduction of the inaugural Atlantic Humpback Dolphin Guardians, carefully selected to include four experienced fishermen from the Niger Delta, three Master’s degree students from the University of Uyo, and four undergraduate students from the University of Uyo, University of Calabar, and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture and Technology.<\/p>\n
